Phase VI Utilities and Open Space
University of Arizona
The $15 million Phase VI Utilities and $5 million Open Space projects
at the University of Arizona in Tucson were completed in concert
with design and construction of over $150 million of new academic
and biomedical research buildings. The utility component of this
project included expansion of the University's central plants, tunnels
and ductbanks, and electrical distribution. The Open Space project,
designed in association with McGann & Associates Landscape Architects,
converted automobile-oriented spaces into a bicycle-friendly pedestrian
mall. Lighting design is sensitive to Dark Sky principles and focuses
on student safety, energy efficiency, wayfinding, and visual linkages
between buildings. An abstract Palo Verde tree covers a seating
area and adds a playful yet sophisticated point of reference. |
